United Way of McPherson County Executive Director Job Description

Classification: Exempt, Fulltime

Summary

Headquartered in the city of McPherson, the United Way of McPherson County (UWMC) serves McPherson County, which includes 25 townships, with eight incorporated cities and approximately 30,000 residents. The UWMC has a very active Board who are motivated to partner with an individual that has a demonstrated ability to provide community and organizational leadership that is both visionary and strategic.

Temperament and Disposition

The UWMC is looking for an individual who:

Cultivates exemplary personal values, including achievement orientation, integrity, flexibility, continuous learning and self-mastery, and inclusiveness
Possess skillful levels of problem-solving and decision-making, including experience with operational planning and management of finances; branding; and technology.
Demonstrates effective communication skills and is adept at stewarding the UWMC brand through public and virtual forums.
Models the ability to develop impact strategies, consolidating resources and relationships through influence, innovation, coalition-building, volunteer relations and political astuteness.

Key Tasks
STRATEGIC DIRECTION

Work with the Board to ensure mission achievement through a comprehensive multi-year strategic plan.
Establish critical action plans and progress metrics to ensure and report progress as to whether strategic objectives are fulfilled.
Lead and direct execution of strategic action plans, holding action item “owners” accountable to performance metrics and milestones on the path to strategy fulfillment and meeting objectives.

FUNDRAISING, COMMUNICATIONS AND VISIBILITY

Provide opportunities for donors, volunteers, and advocates to get involved in and support causes they care about in ways that are engaging, meaningful, and transformative.
Enhance, strengthen and diversify contributed and earned revenue streams, including the development of fundraising goals, and involve all staff and Board actively in advocacy and solicitations; personally driving individual and institutional major gift/grant solicitations.
Conduct public speaking and community outreach with the goal of building increased visibility, funding and other kinds of support for the UWMC.
Expand the public’s understanding of the UWMC; ensuring that the mission, values, and initiatives are clearly and effectively conveyed through communications mediums, both real and virtual; provide public recognition to donors and nonprofits for their contributions.

GENERAL MANAGEMENT, FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION

Ensure that the day-to-day operations and programs are professionally and efficiently organized and administered; ensure proper administration of agreements, compliance with relevant regulations.
Maintain the organization’s fiscal health; ensure that the organization adheres to a sustainable financial plan based on a Board-approved annual budget; ensure that actual financial performance positively tracks budget and operating plans; foster an atmosphere of transparency and accountability in matters relating to the organization’s financial condition.
Responsible for overseeing the annual campaign reconciliations of final workplace reports and collection of pledge receivable resulting in write-offs.
Establish local, regional and/or statewide partnerships or collaborations with other organizations and United Ways, as appropriate.
Oversee and assist in the management of events and initiatives sponsored by the UWMC (i.e. triathlon, etc.)
Ensure compliance with United Way Worldwide, including the filing of required reports and updates.

BOARD RELATIONS

Become familiar with and advance the combined organization’s Governance Policies; develop, recommend and implement policies, program goals and objectives; provide ongoing communication to the Board on critical matters related to the organization’s continued success;
With the Board Chair and Executive Committee, coordinate the efforts of regular and ad hoc committees; develop Board meeting agendas, schedules, monthly board report, retreats and other activities in concert with the Executive Committee;
Assist the Board in identifying and recruiting new Board members whose talents, backgrounds, commitment and interests are congruent with the needs and mission of the organization, particularly with the goal of strengthening connections throughout McPherson County and diverse communities.

PARTNER AGENCY ENGAGEMENT AND RELATIONS

Develop and continue to foster mutual respect between UWMC and Partner Agencies.
Advance, strengthen and continue to develop clear performance and reporting expectations for agency adherence.
Facilitate a consistent, efficient, and effective allocation process for advancing the community impact outcomes.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, social sciences, or related field; or equivalent work experience
1-3 years of experience in non-for-profit or another relevant environment
Familiarity with Microsoft Office and QuickBooks Online

Additional consideration will be given to applicants that can verify additional or graduate level education related to non-profit management or human services; leadership experience with positions of progressive responsibility; strong ties to the McPherson community; and bilingualism.

Salary & Benefits

Starting salary can range from $40,000 to $45,000 in alignment with the educational level and years of experience relevant to the position. In addition to salary, the employee may be eligible for retirement matching, flexible work hours, and other negotiable benefits.
